What Can Go in Your Yellow Bin

Accepted Items:

Paper and Cardboard - clean, dry and flattened
Plastic Bottles and containers - only numbers 1, 2 or 5
Aluminum and steel tins and cans – empty and rinsed
Glass bottles and jars – clean, empty, lids removed

Unaccepted Items:

❌ Food scraps or dirty containers
❌ Soft plastics (bags, cling film, chip packets, wrappers)
❌ Polystyrene, nappies, clothing
❌ Broken glass, crockery, ceramics
❌ Garden waste or general rubbish
❌ Liquid Paperboard Packaging (TetraPak)

What are Recycling Bin Inspections?

Recycling bin inspectors check the contents of recycling bins put out for kerbside collection.

They are here to help us improve our recycling in order to save contaminated product from going to landfill. The recycling bin inspectors:

provide feedback and education to help you improve your recycling and reduce contamination,
keep the staff who collect and sort recycling by hand safe,
Aim to reduce contaminated product from going to landfill, which minimises costs to ratepayers and also improves our environmental footprint.

Recycling bin inspectors use informative bin tags to provide feedback following each bin inspection.
