Ready For Living
We want the Gore District to be the best place for people of all ages, including older people, to live and thrive.
Through Ready for Living we are building our knowledge and understanding of the needs of older people now, so we can put the best things in place for their future.
Our population projections show that by 2038 the percentage of those aged 65 years plus will be 33.1%. We need to ensure we keep people connected and build wider community awareness of the issues older people face in their daily life.
The six priority areas in Ready for Living are:
- Social Participation
- Employment and Volunteerism
Free Parking and Swimming for Over 80's
We know it's important for the older people in our community to stay active and enjoy the facilities available in our CBD.
So, we've rolled out free parking and swimming for people aged 80 years and older.
Living Well in Later Years
We've put together a handy booklet about local services and connections for older people. You will find everything from how to improve your strength and balance to opportunities to volunteer.
Emergency Planning Guide
In partnership with Emergency Management Southland and Ready for Living, we have put together a guide to local emergency preparedness, hazards and more information for older people.
