We want the Gore District to be a place where people of all ages can live well, feel connected, and enjoy a great quality of life.
In 2025, 60.6% of our population was of working age (15–64), which is slightly lower than the national average. At the same time, 22.0% of our community was aged 65 and over—higher than the New Zealand average.
With a higher dependency ratio of 64.3% (compared to 54.2% nationally), it’s clear that supporting and including our older residents is more important than ever. By keeping people connected and engaged, we can continue to build a strong, caring community for everyone.
