Parking infringement fee increases from Tuesday 1 October 2024

The government has set new nationwide fees for parking infringements and towage. The increased fees below will come into effect on 1 October 2024.

Exceeding the time limit

The parking ticket fee depends on how much extra time you park in a metered or time-restricted space.

Time overstayed
No more than 30 minutes		$20.00
More than 30 minutes but no more than 1 hour		$25.00
More than 1 hour but no more than 2 hours		$36.00
More than 2 hours but no more than 4 hours		$51.00
More than 4 hours but no more than 6 hours		$71.00
More than 6 hours		$97.00

Parking unsafely

If you park on the road in a way that’s unsafe for pedestrians or other vehicles, you will receive a $100 fine.

This includes things such as:
on or within six metres of an intersection
on or too close to a pedestrian crossing
on a broken yellow line
alongside a car that is parked on the side of the road (double parking)
in a marked bus stop.

Parking in a mobility park without a valid permit

Being illegally parked in an area reserved for disabled people is an offence that will incur a $750 fee.

Other parking infringements

The fee for most other parking infringements is $70. This includes parking on footpaths, over a vehicle entrance or over a fire hydrant.

Free parking for over 80's

Residents who have reached the age of 80 and still have a current driving licence are eligible for a free all-day on-street parking.

A permit is valid for two years. Permit holders need to contact us if there’s any change in circumstances affecting their eligibility, such as selling a vehicle or change of address.

If the car is sold or driver licence surrendered, please tell us and remove the sticker from the windscreen.

How to use our Parking meters

Our Parking Meters can be used on the street, but also, through the PayMyPark app. The benefits for using PayMyPark include:

You only pay for the time you've parked – no need to guess how long you need to pay for parking.
You can receive an alert when your paid parking is about to expire and extend your time remotely (time restrictions still apply).
If you finish early, you can stop the parking time and get a refund to your account when in Stop-Start mode.
Businesses can simplify their parking costs with one account for all vehicles.

You can choose to pay per session as a casual user, or set up an account. Casual users pay a fee on each transaction (50c), while account holders only pay when they transfer money to their PayMyPark account. Account holders can also use a start-stop function, which means they only pay for the time they've parked.

You will need to know the number of the meter you have parked at. Just look for the white rectangular label with the meters number on our parking meters.
