The Ultimate Guide to Recycling in the Gore District

Glass bottles and jars can be recycled in your yellow recycling bin in Gore and Mataura. Items need to be clean and lids removed. Your yellow recycling bin will be collected every second week from Monday 3 November 2025

We do not accept drinking glasses or Pyrex.

From Monday 3 November Aluminium and Steel Cans can be recycled in your yellow recycling bin for Gore and Mataura residents.

Keep the tabs on drinking cans and ensure tins (such as baked bean tins) are cleaned. Aerosol cans ARE NOT accepted.

From Monday 3 November Cardboard can be recycled in your yellow recycling bin for Gore and Mataura residents. .

Make sure the cardboard is clean and dry. Remove any foil or plastic lining. This can include clean pizza boxes.

Clean, dry paper, larger than the size of an envelope can be recycled in your yellow recycling bin for Gore and Mataura residents from Monday 3 November. This includes newspapers, office paper, envelopes and magazines.

Books can also be dropped at the following locations:

• Pakeke Lions Gore (117 Hokonui Drive, Gore)

Soft plastics from bread bags, fresh produce, frozen food, cereal, courier bags, dry pet food and more aren't accepted in your yellow bin. However, you can recycle these items via the Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme.

Soft plastics can be dropped at the following locations:

• The Warehouse Gore (24 Medway Street, Gore)
• Woolworths Gore (5/9 Irwell Street, Gore)

From Monday 3 November plastic containers with the recycling numbers 1, 2 or 5 can be recycled via Kerbside Collection (yellow bin) in Gore and Mataura. Check the number at the bottom of the container to confirm the number.

Please remove lids and rinse before putting them in your yellow wheelie bin

A range of batteries can be taken to designated collection points for recycling so long as they are not damaged or modified. Car battery contacts need to be taped before dropping off.

Batteries can be dropped off at:

• Mitre 10 Gore (15 Irwell Street, Gore)

Please do not put batteries in your red or yellow bin.

Packaging should be rinsed, cut open and flattened. All associated plastics such as lids and straws should stay on / in the packaging.

Greenwaste includes items such as grass clippings, dead leaves, branches and twigs, dead flowers, weeds, and other plants.

It is free to dispose of a small trailer of greenwaste (under 100kg) at the following locations:

• Gore Transfer Station (24 Toronto Street, Gore)
• Mataura Transfer Station (Henderson Park Road, Mataura)
