Rates payment dates
We encourage people to set up their rates payment by direct debit. For those who prefer to pay in instalments, there are four due dates for each instalment.
The due dates for the 2021/2022 year are:

Direct Debit - it's the easy way to pay
Direct Debit is our preferred method of payment for rates and allows you to pay your rates automatically from your bank account.
Payments can be made weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly (rates instalment) or annually. It ensures your rates accounts are paid on time and for the correct amount. Once a year when your annual rate amount changes the Council will advise you of your new payment amount.
You will be notified of all changes in advance, but unlike Automatic Payments this does not require any action on your behalf, and you will not be charged bank fees for the amendment.
If the due date falls on a non-business day, the payment will be made on the next business day.
Direct Debits can also be used for paying your water account.
Once your Direct Debit authority is received and loaded you will receive a letter confirming your payment amounts, the commencement date and frequency of your payments.
On payment days, the money you owe will be automatically paid out of your bank account. All transactions will show up on your regular bank account statement.

The easiest way to pay, apart from direct debit, is through our Do It Online portal.
Cash or EFTPOS
These payments can be made at either our main office, in Gore, or the Mataura Service Centre.
Internet Banking or Telephone
You will need your assessment number as a reference for the payment so we can credit the payment to your rate account. If you have multiple properties, you need to make multiple payments, each showing the assessment number and ratepayer surname.

We stopped accepting cheques as payment for any of our services on 30 April 2021.
When rates are not paid
It's important to contact our rating team if you are having issues paying your rates or have any questions. You can phone 209-0330 or email [email protected]
Unfortunately, bills get overlooked sometimes. If you do not pay your rates by the date each instalment is due, there will be a 10% penalty.
A further 10% penalty is added to any unpaid rates on 1 July, following the due date. An additional 10% will be incurred every six months thereafter.
