Ice Skating Rink in Gore
Please note: The Gore ice skating rink is not operated by the Gore District Council. It is run by Ice Sports Southland, a volunteer organisation.
While rink bookings are handled by our aquatic centre customer service team, the rink is independently operated by volunteers.
Public Skating Sessions
Enjoy public ice skating sessions in Gore at the following times:
- Saturdays & Sundays: 2:00pm – 4:00pm
- School Holidays: Daily (Monday to Sunday), 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Ice Rink Hire Times
The rink is available for group hire at the following times:
- Monday – Thursday: 9:00am – 2:30pm
- Friday: 9:00am – 2:30pm & 7:00pm – 9:00pm
- Saturday: 4:00pm – 7:00pm
- Sunday: 4:00pm – 9:00pm
- Wednesday evenings: Sometimes available 7:00pm – 9:00pm (by request)
Booking Rates
Social Group Hire Rates
- Minimum charge: $325 per hour (up to 20 adults or tournament group)
- Additional adults: $16 per person, per hour
- Additional children: $13 per child, per hour
- Mixed groups: Charged based on adult and child rates
Included in the cost:
- Rink entry
- Skate hire
- Skating aids
- Use of ice
Optional:
Qualified ice coaches available to run games or teach skating – $60 per hour.
Educational Group Bookings
Available Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm
- Tier 1: Up to 15 people – $175 per hour
- Tier 2: 15–30 people – $225 per hour
- Tier 3: 30+ people – $11 per person, per hour
Coaching and on-ice games can be arranged during these hours.
Safety Requirements
- All skaters use the rink at their own risk.
- Helmets are mandatory for all groups. Helmets are provided free of charge, or you may bring your own ski or snowboard helmet.
- Bike helmets are not recommended unless they do not have a shaped peak.
Curling in Gore
Get a group together and try curling at New Zealand’s southernmost rink.
- Group size: Up to 40 people
- Team size: 3–4 players per team
- Session length: 2 hours (longer sessions available on request)
- Footwear: Clean trainer-style shoes
- Instruction included
Curling Session Times
- Friday: 7:30pm – 9:30pm
- Saturday: 4:30pm – 9:00pm
- Sunday: 8:00am – 2:00pm and 4:30pm – 9:00pm
Curling Costs
- Base cost: $500 per session (up to 20 people)
- Additional players: $26 per person when there are 20 or more in the group.
Helmets are compulsory for all social curling groups. All participants play at their own risk.
