Registrations now open for No Spray Register
While the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are dropping, the Gore District Council Roading team are already planning for the return of warmer, sunnier weather in Spring and the growth it brings.
Unfortunately, some of this growth is unwanted. Weeds and pest plants such as broom and gorse on our road shoulders and footpaths need to be eliminated, so a contractor carries out weed spraying on our roadsides and footpaths to control vegetation growth.
However, a number of property owners throughout our district do not want to have their road frontage sprayed. Reasons include the property hosting an organic farm, health concerns or it may be that they have their prized roses close to their fence.
Whatever the reason, the Council provides the opportunity for property owners to advise that they do not want spraying outside their property.
Property owners are invited to place their property on the Council’s No Spray Register. Once a property is listed, a letter is sent to the property owner every year asking them to confirm that they want to remain on the register. Properties that have changed hands do not remain on the register.
Having a property on the No Spray Register does come with responsibilities; the property owner is required to maintain roadside vegetation control to the same standard, or better, than the Council and its weed spray contractor. If they do not, the property is removed from the register.
The Council roading team is currently sending out its annual letters to property owners on the existing register. We are also publicly advertising that the “No Spray Register” is open for any new properties to be added.
If you want your property on the “No Spray Register” you need to let us know by 27 June 2025.
