As a Library Assistant, you'll support the everyday running of the library—helping with customer service, managing materials, and maintaining a friendly, helpful atmosphere for all who walk through our doors. This position includes weekend shifts and Wednesday evening hours, making it perfect for those who like a bit of variety.

- Process loans and returns of books, media, and equipment
- Maintain the organisation of shelves and ensure accurate filing of materials
- Support cataloguing, processing, and minor repairs of library items
- Assist in setting up and running library events and programmes
- Help customers navigate library technologies including computers and printers
- Perform administrative duties like data entry and recordkeeping
- Create a positive, inclusive environment for library users
- Collaborate with staff to improve services and community outreach
- Represent Gore District Council with professionalism and a welcoming attitude
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A sense of fun and a genuine desire to help people
- Great customer service skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life
- Basic IT knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot tech issues confidently
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- A love of books and an enthusiasm for lifelong learning
- Availability to work weekends and Wednesday evenings
- Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
