Are you passionate about strategy, public policy, and making a meaningful difference at a community level? We're looking for a confident and experienced Strategy and Policy Advisor to join our Corporate and Governance team at Gore District Council.
In this role, you'll drive the development and delivery of our Annual and Long-term Plans, ensuring Council policies align with our strategic vision. You'll support departments across the organisation, helping them stay on track with policy reviews while maintaining a high standard of clarity and compliance.
In addition to the above you will:
- Lead the development of the Annual and Long-term Plans
- Provide robust strategic advice and policy analysis to decision-makers
- Collaborate across departments to manage and update the Council's policy register
- Ensure all policies reflect Council’s brand and legislative obligations
- Facilitate workshops and strategic thinking across the organisation
- Research and interpret legislation relevant to local government
- Drive internal consistency and alignment across operational policies
- Monitor emerging trends and risks that influence strategy
- Report on policy impact, implementation, and improvement opportunities
- Contribute to a culture of proactive, future-focused governance
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A relevant qualification in Strategic Planning or Policy Analysis
- Proven experience working in strategy or policy roles within political or local government environments
- Demonstrated success writing and delivering strategic or statutory plans
- Strong research, analytical, and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication — clear, concise, and persuasive
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build strong working relationships
- Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
