Plan Ahead: Free Enduring Power of Attorney Workshop in Gore
People thinking ahead or seeking peace of mind will find what they’re looking for at an upcoming Enduring Power of Attorney workshop hosted by the Gore District Council Ready for Living Team.
An Enduring Power of Attorney (EPoA) is a legal document that allows people to appoint someone to make decisions if they lose the capacity to do so themselves.
The Gore District Council Ready for Living co-ordinator Roxy van Zyl said an EPoA lets a person choose someone they trust to make decisions for them.
“This can include decisions about money and finances, property, and health and care,” she said.
“An EPoA is like choosing a trusted helper for the future, just in case older people ever need one.”
The free, informative workshop, to be held in Gore in November, will be guided by Gore law firm Sheddan Pritchard, and will cover what an enduring power of attorney is, why it matters, when and how to set one up and what to avoid, she said.
“It’s not giving away control. It’s making sure their future is handled the way they want.
Older people or people with older parents are encouraged to attend, she said.
“As we get older, health issues like memory loss or accidents can happen suddenly. An EPoA helps prepare ahead. Having a plan in place gives you more control, not less. It means your wishes are clear, even if you can’t speak for yourself later,” she said.
The free Enduring Power of Attorney Workshop will be held on Wednesday 12 November from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the Gore RSA. Lunch will be provided.
