Level 2 water restrictions for Mataura
Falling water levels in the Pleura Dam has prompted the Gore District Council to move to Level 2 water restrictions for Mataura today.
This means residents can still water their vegetable gardens using any method. However, they are limited to a maximum of two hours a day, either 7.00am to 9.00am or 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Use of water for other activities, such as cleaning cars or watering flower gardens, is restricted to hand held hose or bucket.
Gore residents have been on Level 2 restrictions since early February.
3 Waters Asset Manager Matt Bayliss said the Pleura Dam, Mataura’s main water supply source, has been struggling to keep up with demand. The Council is likely to start pumping from the Waikana Stream in the next few days to supplement the supply, he said.
The Council have been intermittently taking water from the Mataura River to supplement Gore’s water supply since mid-February.
“There hasn’t been any significant rain since January and things are starting to get quite dry,” Mr Bayliss said.
