Funding review delivers a good result for the Gore District
Gore District Council roading manager Murray Hasler believes the New Zealand Transport Agency’s review of the Funding Assistance Rate (FAR) has delivered a good result for the District.
The Council’s FAR will slightly decrease over the next three years from 56 percent to 54 percent. This equates to a $72,000 cut by 2017/2018 on about $2million of funding from the NZTA.
Mr Hasler said the outcome of the review, from Gore’s perspective, was better than expected.
“It shouldn’t cause significant problems for our district.”
The elephant in the room though is the potential effect the one network road classification may have on funding, Mr Hasler said.
“At this stage we don’t know what level of funding we are going to get for a particular classification of road.”
The FAR determines how much money the Government provides each council to help with road maintenance work.
