Elizabeth Street Pipeline Renewal Project Update
Along with our contractor Fulton Hogan, we would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during the ongoing Elizabeth Street Pipeline Renewal Project.
We appreciate there have been significant disruptions for residents and acknowledge that progress has been slower than anticipated.
Over the next two weeks, Fulton Hogan expects to complete most of the reinstatement works and make the street as tidy as possible before leaving.
However, there will be some outstanding work. Here’s a summary of the work and when it will be completed:
Drainage works at the intersection of Joseph and St Andrews streets
There will still be some drainage works to be finished at the intersection of Joseph and St Andrews streets. Fulton Hogan is looking to start this work next month (July). It’s expected to take three weeks to complete.
Reinstatement of berms
Some berm reinstatement has been completed. However, due to winter conditions, we are not expecting to get grass strike on these in the next few months. Fulton Hogan will return in spring to tidy up the berms and re-grass these.
Driveway entrances
Several driveway entrances have been affected by the works and still require reinstatement. Rather than just reinstate these entrances, we are taking this opportunity to upgrade them.
McDonough Contracting will undertake this work over the next three to four months, subject to the weather. Company representatives will be in touch with you to arrange access when they are ready to start the replacement of your access way.
Infiltration basin
Lowering the section of Elizabeth Street outside the infiltration basin is necessary to create an overflow path, enabling water to flow into Broughton Street during heavy rain events.
If we try and complete this work now, during winter, there is a risk it would take much longer than required and there could be quality issues. Consequently, Fulton Hogan plans to return in spring to do the work. The infiltration basin will remain inoperative until everything is completed.
Private property stormwater separation
Local plumbing companies have started work separating the stormwater and wastewater drains in private properties along Elizabeth Street. Work will progress up the street and into St Andrews and Joseph streets as resources allow.
At this stage we expect it will take until early 2024 to separate all properties in the catchment. Council staff will contact you directly when it’s time to start discussing the proposed separation work for your property.
Once again, we appreciate the community's patience and cooperation throughout this project and apologise for the time it has taken to completed it.
