Pop Up Job Shop coming to Gore
Job-seekers looking for work or employment advice are being encouraged to attend a pop up job shop in Gore on Tuesday 30 April.
The shop, being co-ordinated by Venture Southland and the Gore District Council, will open its doors at the St James Theatre foyer.
In its second year in Gore, the shop is part of a co-ordinated response to addressing Southland’s projected workforce shortage and is free for all to attend. It will provide a friendly and relaxed environment for job-seekers to view vacancies, gain information and employment advice, and speak with local employers.
Venture Southland Business Services Manager Alistair Adam said the shop offered an excellent opportunity for people starting out in the workforce, currently unemployed or looking for a change in career.
“We’re focused on developing the future of our region’s workforce and that means helping job-seekers to be work-ready,” he said.
Employers Silver Fern Farms and Mataura Valley Milk, plus other supporting agencies have confirmed their attendance and will give attendees a snapshot of the skills needed in their respective industries.
Along with hearing from employers, Mr Adam said attendees would have the opportunity to listen to speakers on CV writing and interview skills.
Gore District Council Economic Development Coordinator Ceri Macleod said it was a great opportunity for the Gore District.
“The shop will provide a space to see a range of employment options and then talk with the right people about being the best candidate for a role,” she said.
Mrs Macleod said the shop was a great opportunity for local businesses to promote their vacancies, with jobs displayed free of charge.
Last year 130 jobs were advertised at the Gore shop across a range of sectors including farming, trades, retail and caregiving, and it was predicted a similar number will be displayed this year.
The shop in Gore will open from 10 am – 4 pm on Tuesday 30 April, and will be followed by another in Invercargill from 1 – 4 May at 66 Don Street where over 500 vacancies are expected to be displayed.
Mrs Macleod encouraged job-seekers to head along to either shop.
“With access to current vacancies, support and advice, and information from some great local employers, this is a one-stop shop for helping you on your way to employment. It’s a great opportunity for all involved,” Mrs Macleod said.
