CCTV puts wastewater network under the spotlight
Cameras mounted on a robotic platform will be looking down wastewater pipelines in Gore and Mataura over the next three weeks, providing the Gore District Council with a clear picture of the condition of its network.
The CCTV assessments of wastewater pipelines will be carried out this week in:
- Broughton Street
- Ardwick Street
- Birch Lane
- Hobson Street
- Oldham Street
- Richmond Street
- Green Street
- Bury Street
3 Waters Technical Engineer Stuart O’Neill said the assessment will assist the Council in proactively managing the infrastructure, much of which is quite old.
“The technology we are using provides a better understanding of the existing performance of the pipelines and will greatly assist us in planning a renewal programme.”
Residents are warned there may be some odour in their home while the work is being carried out in their area. While unpleasant, it is not dangerous.
“If residents experience any odour the best thing is to put the toilet seat down and open a window for ventilation. The odour should last no more than 20 minutes.”
Anyone concerned is asked to contact the Council, phone 209 0330, Mr O’Neill said.
The work is being undertaken by contractors Intergroup. They will be working between 7.00am and 5.00pm each day.
