Refuse Collections
Only the official bags will be picked up and conditions apply as per the Council Refuse Bylaw. The Council’s refuse contractor collects refuse only in approved bags in Gore on Wednesday of each week, and in Mataura on Thursday morning of each week. Bags are to be out on the street by 8:00am each morning.
On public holidays there are no refuse collections and refuse collection is transferred to an alternative day - this is notified in the local newspaper. The bags are $2.50 per bag, in bundles of 5, and are available from Woolworths, New World, Clutterbucks, Baldwins Discount, some dairies, the Council office and the Mataura Service Centre.
Terms and conditions governing the disposal of Council approved pre-paid and other refuse containers
The terms and conditions under which the Council will accept official Gore District Council pre-paid and ordinary refuse bags without imposing additional charges are outlined below:
In order to ensure that all the refuse contained within a vehicle is accounted for, vehicles entering or leaving the landfill site are subject to inspection by the landfill operator. Failure to permit an inspection on request may result in the normal landfill gate charge applying.
Council approved pre-paid refuse bags and the contents thereof become the sole property of the Gore District Council upon entry at the landfill site. Pre-paid bags may not be emptied or removed from the landfill site. Failure to comply with this condition may result in the normal landfill gate charge applying.
In order to ensure that only acceptable waste is deposited, contents of refuse bags or other containers are subject to inspection by the landfill operator. Failure to permit an inspection of your refuse may result in landfill access being denied.
In order to ensure public safety, instructions issued by landfill staff must be followed.
Definition of an approved refuse bag
A bag weighing less than 20 kg, of a size not greater than the "official Gore District Council Refuse Bag", or a container less than 50 litres in size, weighing less than 20 kg, containing waste as per the Solid Waste Bylaw.
