2016 Gore District Community Awards

The 2016 Gore District Community Awards werer held on Friday 28 October, at the Gore Town and Country Club stadium. Guest speaker was Dame Susan Devoy, former world champion squash player. Since being appointed New Zealand Race Relations Commissioner in 2013, Dame Susan has taken a high profile role in encouraging New Zealanders to take personal responsibility for race relations and to stand up for victims of racial abuse.  

2016 winners were:

J D Souness Young Achiever Award:  Kate Cummings and Ben Rea

Soroptimist International of Gore Woman of the Year: Bronnie Grant, Bernadette Hunt and Shelley Lithgow

Gore Musical Theatre Emerging Performing Artist Award: Mikayla Ferguson

Sport Southland Services to Sport: Alison Cormack

ANZ Eastern Southland Junior Sportsperson of the Year: Ella Brown

Anderson Lloyd Contribution to Arts and Culture: Rachel Ferguson

The Ensign Customer Service Awards: Winner – Sign-It-Signs; runner-up – SBS Bank, Gore; public vote winner – BP Gore.

Community Impact Award: Gore Kids Hub

Civic Award: Lindsay Young
