Gore District Council events and promotions coordinator Emma Carlé hopes every organisation, club and education facility in the District would enter a float this year.
“It’s a great opportunity to promote your services, it’s free, and fun,” she said.
“This is a chance to really let loose and use all that pent up creativity. If you know how to weld, how to sew, even if you’re into body painting, go for it.
“The more creative the floats the better the parade.
“There are great prizes for the best floats and there will be a people’s choice vote this year,” Ms Carlé said.
“A float could be a fleet of bicycles, old shopping trollies, cars, trucks or even people on foot, so don’t be put off if you don’t have access to a trailer,” Ms Carlé said.
If anyone didn’t have the time or materials to create a float it was possible to borrow floats from the Southland Santa Parade for a fee, she said.
Following the Christmas Parade everyone heads to the Gore Gardens for an afternoon of fun and entertainment starting at 12.30pm. The afternoon celebrates local entertainers and gives people the chance to enjoy both traditional and modern Christmas songs. Lay out a picnic blanket and relax amongst the beautiful trees, while children enjoy all the free activities on offer. Food is available for purchase.
