Commemorative plaque unveiled
A plaque, marking the planting of a Wellingtonia tree to commemorate 150 years since Gore was founded, has been unveiled by Gore District Mayor Tracy Hicks and Clutha-Southland MP Bill English.
Parks and recreation manager Ian Soper said Gore was renowned for its landscape, trees, picturesque public gardens and green belt, courtesy of the town’s forefathers. Commemorative plantings, such as the Wellingtonia, continue that legacy and will be there for all to enjoy in years to come. Gore has a number of fine examples of the Wellingtonia, the most notable being located in Gore’s main public gardens and nearby Devon Street.
