Community Awards tickets available this week

The nominations are in, the judges are deliberating and the scene is set for a great night at the Gore District Community Awards on October 26.

This year’s guest speaker World Cup winning All Black coach Sir Graham Henry has already attracted a lot of interest. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday at the Destination Gore information centre. At $40 for a four-course meal, inspirational speaker and the chance to salute those in the community who stand out, it’s great value.

The nominees are:

JD Souness Ltd Young Achiever Award: Franky Maslin, Mariah-Carey Broad, Robert Gregory, Oliver Carran.

Hovell Environmental Planning Contribution to the Environment: Don Lamont, Pukerau Primary School.

Soroptimist International of Gore Woman of the Year: Carol Dawson, Laurel Turnbull, Debbie Schriek, Margie Rea, Heather Paterson.

Eastern Southland Services to Sport: Vince Aynsley, Anne and Peter Reid, Stuart Riordan, Murray Speden.

Gore Operatic Society Emerging Performing Artist Award: Tangled Strings – Michaela Roy and Vanessa Harvey, Molly Johnson, Cassie Crawford, Joel Lee, Bryony Harrison.

Eastern Southland Junior Sportsperson: Greg Dyer, Oliver Carran, India Henry, Vaughan McCall, Sheldon Bagrie Howley, Nick Goodwin, Ben Turnbull, Ashleigh White, Gavin Stark, Georgina Robertson, Jade Graham, Tori Peeters.
