LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS 2010

The Local Government elections for the Gore District Council, Environment Southland, Mataura Licensing Trust, Gore and Districts Health Inc and Southland District Health Board are held every three years, always on the second Saturday in October.  In 2010 they are being held on 9 October 2010.

The elections will be held by postal vote.  All elections will be conducted using First Past the Post (FPP) system,  except for the Southland District Health Board elections which will be conducted under the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system.  You can find more information on the STV system at: http://www.stv.govt.nz.

Nominations are now open and close at 12:00 noon on Friday 20 August 2010.  Please click here for nomination forms and other supporting information.

Key Dates

Nominations open:
Friday 23 July 2010 - Information packs and nomination forms will be available for intending candidates on that date

Nominations close:
Friday 20 August 2010, 12.00 noon

Voting period:
Friday 17 September to Sat 9 October 2010 (12.00 noon, close of voting) 

Delivery of voting papers:
Friday 17 - Wednesday 22 September 2010.  If voting papers have not arrived during this period, special voting papers can be posted out  phone (03) 209 0330.

 

Special Voting

Special voting facilities will be available in the Civic Administration Building from Friday 17 September until close of voting at 12.00 noon on Saturday 9 October 2010.

 

Electoral Roll

The preliminary Electoral Roll is open for inspection from Wednesday 21 July to Friday 20 August 2010. This can be inspected at the Civic Administration Building.

Are You Enrolled to Vote?

The Gore District Electoral roll is taken from the Parliamentary roll prior to a local body election.  The latest Parliamentary roll can be viewed at any NZ Post Shops.

Enrolment update packs are always posted to all enrolled electors prior to elections. If you need to update your personal enrolment details, simply complete the form, sign it and post it back.

You can check and update details and enrol online at the elections website. You can also check your details and complete change of details forms at any NZ Post Shop.
