27 September-31 October
Art Exhibition: The Environment Southland collection
The Environment Southland Collection is a set of original lithographs by 17 major NZ artists.
These works were undertaken by the artists at Muka Studios a specialist master printing studio formerly based in Auckland.
Instigated by Frans Baetens and Magda van Gils, Muka Studio was a workshop dedicated exclusively to printing lithographs in the traditional way – from lithographic stones.
In 2011 Frans retired from his master printer’s role and after 25 years of faithful service, the ‘Vairin’ press and other studio items have found a new home in Gore as part of the pending East Gore Art Centre development project.
Both Frans and Magda continue to run Muka Gallery in Auckland and tour their famous annual ‘Muka Youth Prints’ exhibition. NZ’s longest running art event, now in it’s 30th year.
